Alpha Lipoic Acid 100mg 120 Capsules from Gold Vitamins

Alpha Lipoic Acid 100mg 120 Capsules from Gold Vitamins

Alpha Lipoic Acid 100mg 120 Capsules from Gold Vitamins What is Alpha Lipoic Acid? Alpha lipoic acid is a fatty acid found naturally inside every cell in the body. It’s needed by the body to produce the energy for our body’s normal functions. Alpha lipoic acid converts glucose (blood sugar) into energy. Alpha lipoic acid is also an antioxidant, a substance that neutralizes potentially harmful chemicals called free radicals. What makes alpha lipoic acid unique is that it functions in water and fat, unlike the more common antioxidants vitamins C and E, and it appears to be able to recycle antioxidants such as vitamin C and glutathione after they have been used up. Glutathione is an important antioxidant that helps the body eliminate potentially harmful substances. Alpha lipoic acid increases the formation of glutathione. Alpha lipoic acid is made by the body and can be found in very small amounts in foods such as spinach, broccoli, peas, Brewer’s yeast, brussel sprouts, rice bran, and organ meats. For maximum absorption, the supplements should be taken on an empty stomach. Why People Use Alpha Lipoic Acid? Peripheral Neuropathy Peripheral neuropathy can be caused by injury, nutritional deficiencies, chemotherapy or by conditions such as diabetes, Lyme disease, alcoholism, shingles, thyroid disease, and kidney failure. Symptoms can include pain, burning, numbness, tingling, weakness, and itching. Alpha lipoic acid is thought to work as an antioxidant in both water and fatty tissue, enabling it to enter all parts of the nerve cell and protect it from damage. Brain Function Alpha lipoic acid can cross the blood-brain barrier, a wall of tiny vessels and structural cells, and pass easily into the brain. It is thought to protect brain and nerve tissue by preventing free radical damage. Age-Related Conditions As an antioxidant, alpha lipoic acid can neutralize free radicals which can damage cells. Free radical damage is thought to contribute to aging and chronic illness.

My doctor tested me for Diabetes by only looking at my fasting Glucose but what about insulin? Same thing?

Sorry, but I don’t know much about this so this question may sound silly but don’t you need to test your insulin level and well as glucose? I always hear the term "insulin resistance" and wonder if my doctor ever checked if I am insulin resistant. I wanted to get checked because I have PCOS and was told to get checked because it is common with PCOS.

Most doctors do NOT mneasure insulin levels unless the patient proves to be "a problem". The Blood Insulin Level Test is VERY EXPENSIVE, and most insurance companies won’t pay for it UNLESS all other avenues have been tried. Since your primary disease is PCOS, it is very unlikely that the insurance company will pay for a Blood Insulin Level Test.

But it is usually not needed. Fasting blood sugar reading is the most common method for diagnosis. this is the official "Method of Diagnosis":
"If a patient has two or more FASTING Blood Glucose Readings about 130, diabetes should be considered."
The doctor will follow this up with an A1C test and probably a Glucose Tolerance Test (take 3-4 hours, and you have to drink that sickly-sweet liquid)

So, if you ARE diabetic, are you Insulin Resistant or Insulin Deficient? A Blood Insulin Level Test WOULD show that, but there is a cheaper way.

There are TWO classes of drugs commonly used: Those that make your body more sensitive to insulin, and those that make your pancreas produce more insulin.

As it happens, Metformin is a drug for Insulin Resistance. It increases you sensitivity to insulin. It ALSO helps with the PCOS problem!

So the doctor may prescribe Metformin (or the same drug from another manufacturer) for your PCOS, and he will continue to watch your blood sugar levels, making SURE that they don’t drop too low.

The OTHER drugs cause your pancrease to make MORE insulin. these drugs would NOT help the PCOS, so it is unlikely the doctor would prescribe them to you UNLESS you are diabetic and the metformin doesn’t seem to be helping that.that.

But when taking these drugs, you have to be careful. They "squeeze" the pancreas harder, and so it is more likely to wear out as you age. if the doctor is not careful in his dosages and thorough with his checkups, you could become a Type 1 Diabetic, and require insulin shots.

The point is, it is CHEAPER to try Metformin, or the other drugs, and see which one works, than it is to take the Blood Insulin Level Test!

So most doctors will try drug therapy FIRST, and request the Blood Insulin Level Test ONLY as a last resort.

Distinguish between diabetic ketoacidosis and HONK.?

To answer your question simply, HONK is just a change in the osmotic pressure of your blood due to increased blood sugar. The acidity of your blood is not affected because lipolysis is not being performed. In DKA, however, the body must perform lipolysis in order to survive, which increases the acidity of the blood. Below, i will explain further.

HONK is "hyperosmotic non-ketotic acidosis". Ketosis is absent in HONK because the presence of some insulin inhibits lipolysis (the conversion of fat to energy), unlike diabetic ketoacidosis which happens in the presence of very little to no insulin at all.

HONK basically just causes severe diuretic conditions in the body which case frequent urination, and causes the blood to thicken, and become more viscous. This in turn increases the osmotic pressure of your blood. The body is still able to synthesize energy from carbohydrates using the amount of insulin that it is provided. Since it does not have to perform lipolysis on a large enough scale to cause ketones to acidify the blood, it is not considered the same as diabetic ketoacidosis. Ultimately, if untreated, HONK will lead to death, just as DKA will.

Symptoms of HONK:
-Hyperviscosity and increased risk of thrombosis
-Disturbed mentation
-Neurologic signs including focal signs such as sensory or motor impairments or focal seizures or motor abnormalities, including flacidity, depressed reflexes, tremors or fasciculations.

Symptoms of DKA:
-Sluggish, extreme tiredness.
-Extreme thirst, despite large fluid intake.
-Constant urination
-Fruity smell to breath, similar to nail polish remover or peardrops.
-Hyperventilation, at first rapid and shallow, then progressively deeper and less rapid.
-Extreme weight-loss.
-Oral Thrush may be present, or/ yeast infections that fail to go away, this is because the normal fungal/flora present in oral cavity/cervix in women, the balance is upset and bacterial began to feast on the high sugar from urine output/ dry mouth from extreme thirst.
-Muscle wasting.
-Agitation / Irritation / Aggression / Confusion

Risk: Medical termination of pregnancy with type 2 diabetes?

I am a 35 year old female and have type 2 diabetes. I have a 6 month old and am now 7 weeks pregnant again. Since my husband and I feel we are not ready to have another baby, we are planning to terminate the pregnancy.

What are the risks of medical termination of pregnancy for a diabetic patient?

I had a C-section delivery of my first baby. Does it factor in ?

Don’t have an abortion that’s evil believe me after you do it then your gonna feel bad and that’s gonna be on your conscious that you KILLED your OWN CHILD,,,please don’t do it,,,just ask your doc if there’s some ways that you could have a perfectly healthy baby…oh yeah p.s. you should have wrapped it up if you didn’t want to get pregnant again,,,not trying to sound ignorant but ain’t that how you got preg in the first place

i need Help finding a diet for a person with heart disease and diabetes?

My mother has a heart disease on top of diabetes and is trying to find a diet that suites her. She is on different medications that disable her from eating certain things or how much she eats of it…if anyone can help with a good diet please let me know.

I follow loosely the South Beach phase 2 diet. If you watch the amounts of fats in this it is excellent for both lowering glucose levels and for portion control. I have not gained any weight from the amount of meds required for both these diseases.
