I have gestational diabetes. Can anyone pls make me aware how much a normal fasting blood sugar must be.?

I am using a glucometer and im getting varying results, which im not feeling are correct. Is it advisable to use glucometer for blood sugar monitoring or go to lab check during pregnancy.

For fasting :less than 105 mg/dl Thats for Gestational Diabetes.

I would have printed it but page does not allow to copy.

Should my hubby seek emergency treatment right now for diabetic ketoacidosis?

My hubby’s blood sugar is 380 right now. It’s been in the 200′s and 300′s for the last few months now.

For the first time today his breath has a strong odor. I know that the main symptom of ketoacidosis is a fruity smelling breath and it’s very strong all of a sudden a few minutes ago.

He’s noticed that today he’s been soo thirsty and constantly drinking bottles of water.

He had 2 glasses of Ovaltine today.

Also around the same time I looked at him and noticed he looks like he’s lost a few pounds and I’ve never thought that before. He’s over 350 pounds already.

I’m wondering should he just make an appt to see his doctor or should he go to the ER? thanks.

Call the doctors office and they can tell you if it’s an emergency or not. They may arrange to get him in quickly. Unless that Ovaltine was sugar free that was a bad move since his sugars are already high. Best of Luck.

How can I get glimpiride and metformin without a Script. Lost my insurance but still have type 2 diabetes?

I am trying to save on a trip to the doctor. Is there a way to recieve
meds for type 2 diabetes. And is there some kind of vitamins that
produce the same result? I’ve been taking fish oil daily.

Check to see if your local health department offers a free clinic. If not, call the dr that you have gone to in the past and explain that you do not have insurance and if they might have a discount fee for people without insurance, if they don’t ask them if they could recommend somewhere that you could get medical care for your diabetes at a low/no cost – they may know the locations in your area. Walmart has both of these drugs for $4 for a one month supply, and many other stores are also offering $4 prescriptions – check with your local pharmacist.

I have type 2 diabetes and will be starting P90x this week. Will I need to modify any of the diet plan?

I’ve been cleared by the doc for the program but is there anything anyone can recommend with the diet plan who has diabetes and followed the routine? So far I’m only taking metformin once a day. I found out about it 2 mo ago and pray I can get off it altogether with P90x.

Well the P90X has a pretty healthy diet so you shouldn’t have to. Just listen to your body, if you feel weak and dizzy be sure to eat a snack. Other than that you should be fine.
Good luck.

Has anyone else here been tested for gestational diabetes? What was your blood sugar level?

Today my wife went for her 28 week screening, she had blood sugar of 175. They want her to do a second longer test. Has anybody here had gestational diabetes? Or high blood sugar that was later proven to not to be gestational diabetes? Please anyone who has knowledge help me to calm my wife! Thanks.

I had gestational diabetes with my second child. The doctor had me check my blood sugar with a meter 4 times a day. Once when I woke up and then after my 3 main meals. He wanted it to be under 100. I had to keep a log and was able to control it with my diet. Very little carbs and sugar. I was really scared at first but it turned out okay. My daughter was perfect and went to 39 weeks, she was 8lbs 4ozs. My first baby I did not have gestational diabetes and she was 8lbs 10ozs!!!
Also taking your blood sugar at home does not hurt as bad as when they poke your finger in the DR.’s office. It is vicious at the doctors but it barely hurts at all when you have the correct equipment.
Good luck!!!

My free diabetes screening revealed 94 mg/dl for fasting blood glucose level. Is that bad?

I’m a 23 yr old male with some weight issues. I had the diabetes check yesterday morning, however, I’m never hungry in the mornings, and my blood sugar usually drops in the afternoons, evenings, and nights.

However, I’ve been dealing with quite the opposite for the past several years- low blood sugar known as hypoglycemia. I read numerous studies and articles on it and knew that’s what I had.

No, that’s great. Fasting blood glucose should be between 70 and 100mg/dl. Your result is great.

That indicates that you are not at risk for hyperglycemia, or diabetes.

Hypoglycemia is defined as a glucose (or blood sugar) reading below 70mg/dl. This is likely what you would see on a meter if you were to test yourself when you feel lightheaded, dizzy, etc. in the afternoon, evening, and nights.

Good luck in managing your hypoglycemia.

Diabetic ketoacidosis plus hepatitis C coma plus hypertension : treatment ?

what kind of i.v. fluids you are supposed to use for such pt.

Treatrment? Forget it – plan the wake.

Do you have any positive anecdotes of pregnancy with type 2 diabetes?

My husband is leery of attempting a pregnancy because I have type 2 diabetes. I have read about it, and while it is considered high risk, the success rates appear very positive.

Your ideas please.

I just had my 10 week ultra sound and we saw 2 babies. Just the shock of that was enough. Then I went to the Perinatal clinic [ in the same hospital ] and the nurse was looking for the doppler to listen for the baby’s heart beat. I said I just had the ultra sound and guess what, It’s twins !
She gasp and said, "great , that’s just what I don’t need. You are a high enough risk anyway just having diabetes "
It was so funny. Like it was her pregnancy.
It is a lot of work being pregnant with type 2 diabetes. I ended up taking a very high amount of insulin. And there are loads of tests.
You should see a perinatologist prior to becoming pregnant to know each other and get in the best possible diabetes control you can.You will have to get off of oral meds and go on insulin. It’s not really that hard.
My A1c through out was 7.5 and all was well.
Good luck and best wishes.
