Tips for a diet for someone with diabetes?

My mom was just diagnosed with Diabetes this week. Can anyone give me some tips on her diet? What should she try to eat, and what should she try to avoid? any foods that she could eat in daily basis?

Eat LESS Carbs, switch to Whole Wheat breads & pasta
carbs, like pototaes, pasta, turn into sugar in the body
eat more fiber, it lowers blood sugar, more veggies (you get to tell your mom)
look into cimmimon pills (NOT the powder) i’ve heard it helps

What is the chance of me getting gestational diabetes with this pregnancy?

My first born was healthy, as was I. My second born was born with hypoglycemia and had to stay in the NICU for several days before I could take him home. I am now 3 1/2 months pregnant with my third. What would be the chance of me getting the gestational diabetes again?

The chances are a lot higher. You are supposed to have the 1 hour glucose test right when you find out your pregnant as opposesd to the standard 24 weeks(I forget when the actual time when every mom is checked). I just had a baby 5 months ago and had gestaional diabetes and this is what they told me at the class they made us take. Start checking your blood sugars now before your next appointment with the doctor.

Fasting for 3 hour Gestational Diabetes Test?

I am going tomorrow morning at 8:00 for my three hour test. I already failed the fist one. My question is, can I drink anything tonight or in the morning? My nurse didn’t tell me what time I couldn’t eat or drink after any suggestions?

I have taken the 3 hour test once already in this pregnancy (I’m higher risk because I have had big babies….and failed the 1 hour). I have to take it again this week. I was told to fast for 8 – 12 hours. Nothing but water during the fast.

Bring a high-protein snack with you to eat right after the 3-hour draw….if you are like me, you will feel like crap from the blood sugar crash and will not want to wait for food.

Please go to a doctor now, do not listen to some of the advice on this forum….for the love of Pete, someone actually told you to have orange juice to raise your blood sugar?

How does type 2 diabetes effect people?

I think i may have type 2 diabetes, i am going to get a blood test tomorrow. Just wondering how it effects peoples lives?

In my case, it woke me up. If I didn’t change my eating and exercising habits, that I would end up dying a slow and miserable death like my mom did. Since then, learning all I could about healthy eating, along with daily exercise, has helped me to regain my health and stop taking medication.

Have you been successfull at managing type 2 Diabetes with diet and exercise?

If so what has it been that has made you most successfull.

On one of the Diabetes forums, a lady exercises by running up and down her stairs before eating and has been able to not use Metformin to keep her sugar level. Just passing it on.
