How Can We Know That our Child May Suffer From Type 1 Diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes is a very well known disease due its permanent existence in the body system and also the serie of procedures that involves. Diabetes occurs due to the lack of beta cells in the pancreas. Much more, the role of the beta cells is in producing insulin, a vital component of the body system. Once they are destroyed by the body’s own immune system, they need to be replace by external sources in order to maintain a balance of beta cells in the pancreas and the most important in prolonging life.

In addition to this, type 1 diabetes tends to be more severe than type 2 diabetes and most of the times occurs during childhood. Type 1 diabetes appears when the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin are totally damaged. Consequently, without insulin which is suppose to transfer glucose into the cells, the blood glucose levels rise above the normal limits. This procedure is knows as hyperglycemia.

Moreover, because the body cannot use sugar, it is spilled over into the urine and lost eventually. Some of the most common symptoms caused by type 1 diabetes are the sudden weight of loss, the permanent feelings of hunger and thirst and the weakness of the body. Although type 1 diabetes is a common disease , the specialists haven’t discoverd the real source of its occurance. It has been considered that genetic predisposition and also enviromental factors, such as viral infections have a great influence. It is important to say that the process which destroys the beta cells may take a long period of time until the insulin production stops and once the type 1 diabetes appears, it becomes very serios in a short time.

Furthermore, type 1 diabetes is a common affection in the children, especially at early ages, such as 4 or 5 years old. Parents may notice certain changes in their children behaviour and because diabetes has its own symptoms, not very known by people, they may not know the real condition of their children. In this case parents should take their children to the physician in order to find out if they suffer of Type 1 diabetes or other affection. Some of the first signs of type 1 diabetes are excessive hunger and thirst, frequent urination, the child suffers severe loss of weight, becomes weak, fatigue, tend to have problems at school, eyesight disfunctions, nausea and in the worst cases a coma may be the most important sign. Blood Glucose presents certain levels called Level Goals for children with diabetes.

For instance, before meals the blood glucose levels should be less than 110 mg/dL 90-130 mg/dl, on the other hand, bedtime blood glucose levels need to be less than 120 mg/dL 110-150 mg/dL; HbA1c 4% to 6& less than 7%.

In conclusion, type 1 diabetes can become a serios affection if it is not cured with the appropriate treatment. Parents should pay attention to their children unusual behaviour and symptoms and should ask medical help in a short time. Only with medical treatment and a special diet, children who suffer from type 1 diabetes can have an easy life without any complications.

How Can We Help our Diabetic Teens?

Type 1 diabetes is a serious illness which usually appears during childhood. If in childhood when the child is little and unaware of his/her condition, as a teenager things tend to change and become difficult in many cases. It is important to say that parents with diabetic children should teach them since they are small the basics things, such as checking their blood sugar, take their insulin regularly, special diets in order to get used with their affection and the new lifestyle.

In addition to this, adolescence is a difficult period for both, parents and teens. Teenagers become more aware of their condition, claim much independence and in many cases they refuse their parents help. Even though, teenagers become responsible for their own acts and the way they deal with diabetes, parents should always keep and eye on them and support them from the shadow. In this way, parents should encourage their teens and implement in their mind self-confidence and the thought that their condition doesn t make them less than other young people. Much more adolescents may become rebellious due to the age and refuse their parents advice and support. For instance they visit their doctor alone or don t check their blood glucose regularly.

Furthermore, teenagers with diabetes have the chance to share their condition and experiences with other young people like them. There are a lot of hospitals and diabetes centeres which provide to teenagers with diabetes assistance and support and much more they promote educational camps for teens in order to learn more about their diabetes management skills.

It is important to mention that during the adolescence, young people with diabetes face difficult problems due to their hormonal changes. So, it has been discovered that the growth hormone and adrenaline have certain effects such as fighting against insulin or stimulating the release of stored glucose in the body. Adolescence is a period of major changes in young people behaviour, they start to relate more with people of their age and in this case a illness like diabetes might make them feel different than the others. However, teens with diabetes should know that they can have a normal life like all the other kids of their age, go out, join parties have a free social life but this can only be achieved by being careful regarding their diabetes. Parents should also encourage their teens to not be embarassed of their condition and moreover to share their experiences with their close friends by teaching them everything that diabetes involves.

In conclusion, parents who face difficulties in their relationship with their diabetic teens can ask for help by appealing to certain organzations. Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is one of these organizations which help parents by offering them advice and help in order to cope more with their kids and keep control of their condition.

Identify for yourself the Symptoms of Diabetes

There are some factor risks for diabetes. Being overweight for a while the risks for getting diabetes increases.

Exercising often reduces the risks too. It is known that sedentary people have a risk greater by 40 percent. As you get older the risks of getting diabetes increase too. Hyper tension and a high level of cholesterol are also very common at diabetics. If your family has a diabetes record then your chances of developing the disease are increased.

Most diabetes symptoms are pretty hard to recognize.

Polyuria, also know as excess urination, is one of the most common symptoms. Excess urination appears because of the large quantity of sugar that are deversed in the urine. This will make a person urinate very often making him wake in the middle of the night. If this happens a person should take it like a warning sign. If polyuria appears, it is very possible that another symptom will appear. Polydipsia or excess thirst appears because of the extreme fluid loss caused by polyuria. Again, if a person is thirsty all the day, and it consumes huge quantities of fluids it should immediately go and see a doctor.

Diabetes can also damage the small blood vessels in the eyes causing a disease called retinopathy. The lens of the eye is swelled by the high blood sugars. This is characterized by a blurry vision or in some cases full loss of the vision. Almost one third of the persons diagnosed with diabetes suffers of retinopathy.

A persons limbs may get numb. This is caused when diabetes affects the nerves (peripheral neuropathy) and will cause the sensation of numbness in the limbs, usually in the feet.

Wounds and ulcers may appear on the feet and toes of a victim. If this happens diabetes has already developed.

Diabetes hinders the healing of the wounds so they will remain for a long time.

The bad part is that most people do not recognize the symptoms just after diabetes steps in. If you know or you think that you have any of these symptoms then you really should go and ask your doctor to run some tests. In most cases a single test of blood sugar is enough to check if you have diabetes.

A Rare Type of Diabetes- Diabetes Insipidus

One of the most rare medical conditions is diabetes insipidus. The immediate cause of this condition is excessive thirst and frequent passage of urine that is very diluted. The condition, diabetes insipidus is cause by a hormone deficiency in your pituitary gland, found at the base of your brain.

This hormone that cause diabetes insipidus is the anti diuretic hormone. Its role is to prevent your kidney from excessive production of urine. However, there is also another cause of diabetes insipidus. Your brain may produce this hormone, but it can often happen that your kidneys not respond to this hormone. So as you see, diabetes insipidus is either cause by the lack of the anti diuretic hormone of the un normal response of your kidneys to this hormone.

There are also some their causes that can lead to diabetes insipidus: a tumor of your pituitary gland. This is the gland that release the anti diuretic hormone. If you have an injury to your head that somehow damaged this gland as well, the this can also be a cause of diabetes insipidus. Brain tumors, encephalitis, meningitis are also some of the things that may cause diabetes insipidus. Kidney problems or hemorrhage in your head or pituitary gland can also be some of the cause of this type of diabetes. Unfortunately, there are no known ways that can help you prevent this diabetes type.

The most common of all diabetes insipidus symptoms is excessive thirst. This is a very difficult symptoms, because this thirst can not actually be satisfied. Another diabetes sign is the passage of excessive quantities of urine, that is also very diluted and has no color. Dehydration is another sign of diabetes insipidus. This can also be more thought of as a result of this particular diabetes type. Low pressure of your blood, an increased heart rate and even shock can be the results of this diabetes symptom. If you thought that the symptoms of diabetes insipidus ended here, you thought wrong! Constipation can also be one of the diabetes insipidus symptoms together with bed wetting. However, this last sign is not that common.

Because diabetes insipidus is highly related to the pituitary gland and to your brain, any tumor found in those areas can mean a risk factor in diabetes insipidus. Furthermore, any injury to the head of infection in this area can also be thought as risk factors of this diabetes type.
