HbA1C vs fasting diabetes test
They measure different things. The fasting glucose test measures what your blood sugar at that moment in time. It can be affected by what and when you ate, stress in your life, and steroids. The HbA1C is a measurement of glucose attatched to red blood cells. This gives the doctors an idea of how well glucose has been controlled in the last 3 months (the lifespan of red blood cells).
The A1c test is better because the fasting test only tests your glucose levels at the time of the test. The A1c test is much more broad.

Both tests have there place the fasting test only gives the blood glucose level at the moment the blood was drawn whereas the HbA1C gives the average glucose level over the last 6 – 8 weeks

The A1C gives the AVERAGE of the last 3 months and the fasting blood sugar gives the number of what your blood sugar is running now. They are both accurate—just used for two different readings.
