Is there hope? looking for diabetes info and comments please?

I have diabetes, I’ve had it for 17 yrs, since i was 3. my mother felt horrible for me growing up because i was treated so differently. so, trying to make my life easier, she told everyone around me i could eat whatever i want. she thought it was unfair to have such a small child face her own mortality and be afraid of what other children called treats.
though i thank her for this, it probably wasn’t the best idea in retrospect.my point is that my pancreas produces 0 insulin. I’ve read about new theories and studies on diabetes but the ones I’ve found all say basically that the pancreas must make something, that there has to be a bit of natural production to grow on. if so, i’m obviously screwed.
i was wondering if anyone knows of anything that help me, even if its far in the future? basically i’m just looking for hope. and does anyone know how i might find a trial to play lab rat in? it doesn’t exactly sound appealing but i’m gettin’ down to my last straws here. and my case is a bit weird so maybe i could help someone else, right? any comments or answers would help. thanks
